Neprintsev Yuri Mikhailovich

Born in Tiflis (Georgia) 1909. Studied in B.A.Fogel's studio, Tiflis, early 1920s-c. 1925; in V.E.Savinski's studio, Leningrad, 1926(25?)-30(27?); at Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture 1934-38, as post-grad. 1938-41. Active in Leningrad. Began exhibiting 1930. Important shows include "Twenty Years of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army", Moscow, 1938; "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1947; "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1949, 1951,1955; Well-known works include "A Rest After Battle"( 1951; Red Army Museum; variants made). Taught at Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture/ Repin Institute from 1938. Became a Soviet academician 1970. Awarded Stalin prize 1952; title "People's Artist of the USSR" 1956. Also a graphic artist.
