Tkachev Aleksei Petrovich

Born in Chugunovka, Bryansk reg., 1925.
Studied at Moscow Intermediate Art School 1939-45; Moscow Art Institute/Surikov Institute 1945-51.
Active in Moscow.
Member of the Union of Soviet Artists.
Began exhibiting 1948.
Important shows include "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1955; "Soviet Russia" Moscow, 1960.
Taught in creative studios of USSR Academy of Arts, Moscow, 1976-1980s.
Became a Soviet academician. Leading realist painter of 1950s-60s; created all major works with his brother, S.P.Tkachev.

Tkachev Sergei Petrovich

Studied at Vitebsk Art College 1938-41; Sverdlovsk Art College 1945-46; Moscow Art Institute 1946-52. Active in Moscow.
Began exhibiting 1952.
Member of the Union of Soviet Artists.
Important shows include "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1952, 1955, "Soviet Russia" Moscow, 1960.
Chairman of Russian Artists' Union 1976-86.
Became a Soviet academician.
Awarded title "People's Artist of the USSR"
Leading realist painter of 1950s-60s; created all major works with his brother, A.P.Tkachev
